first of all, can you believe that today is flavor flav’s 49th birthday??! yeah. not that flavor of love wasn’t gross enough before…
i made a spontaneous decision to travel this weekend. my friend in minneapolis called on thursday to say she was in chicago, which is only three hours from me. since she’s normally much farther away, i decided to embrace the freedom of my new single life and go visit. she was staying with another friend, one i haven’t seen for probably around six years. it was great to hang with some girls i love and rarely see. we ate good food- more on that later- and did pampery girl stuff, exactly what i didn’t know i needed. one works at the mall of america- hilarious- at this place called lush which is a fresh cosmetics place. they have things like shampoo bars, lotions, soaps, all kinds of yummy smelling stuff. she gets a 50% discount so on saturday we went to one of the chicago stores and i spent a bit too much. still- 50% off, so i can justify it somehow. she’d brought a bunch of stuff with her, too, so on saturday before we went there, we did face masks and salt scrubs and deep hair conditioner that smelled like chai tea and felt so good. i also painted my toes gold!
we were busy on saturday! we also drank mimosas while we pampered- oh yeah- and had a delicious sushi dinner at this place called tank. there were four of us, and we all got a variety of sushi and shared it. i took a few pictures:
mackerel nigiri and some roll with wasabi flavored roe and sriracha on top. amazing!
my plum wine with little boozey plum inside! yummy.
i needed a girl’s weekend away from home, and i’m really glad i went! i also found out about this website called Goodreads. it’s cool cuz it’s reading/book centered… i love reading. it got my through those trying times, shall we say. if you like that sort of thing, check it!
this post is getting kind of long, so i’ll refrain from telling all about my drive back from chicago which took much longer than it should have, and how i had to drive through gary for the first time ever, and how i followed detour signs that suddenly ended and left me lost… maybe i’ll just post a couple photos i took:
factories around gary… everything looks like this, and for a while, all exits are called things like “(whatever name) plant 1 exit” or plant 2 or 3 or whatever. stifling.
i always pass this place on my way to and from chicago- this is my first photo of it, though. it’s cute, isn’t it? don’t you want some popcorn now? sorry the shot looks a little weird, it’s through my passenger window and my car, well, it’s dirty as usual.
